Bengaluru: Damaged Cantonment Station Road to Be Restored This Month

Damaged road conditions have created major issues for commuters, especially during rush hours, leading to difficulties in driving and significant traffic congestion. People face multiple obstacles daily, and the residents of Bengaluru are currently dealing with problems on the newly constructed Cantonment Station Road. Despite being opened just this year, complaints about its poor condition have already surfaced.

The Cantonment Station Road was inaugurated in February 2024. The road had been dug up due to poor coordination between the Railways and civic agencies. However, the South Western Railway completely denied these claims regarding the road's condition. Despite this, many residents have expressed concerns over the road's current state.

The Railways began operations on the road in front of the Cantonment Railway Station in February 2024. The road, which is 24 meters wide and includes a four-lane diversion, was primarily constructed to improve the existing 14-metre-wide road and provide new basement parking spaces. The decision to build the road was finalised after coordination with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike.

After its opening in February, the road served the public efficiently for a few months before the concerned departments decided to dig it up. In August 2024, the right portion of the Cantonment Station Road was dug up to install underground water and power pipelines, as reported by the *Deccan Herald*.

The current state of the Cantonment Station Road has become a topic of much discussion recently. South Western Railway鈥檚 Chief Public Relations Officer, Manjunath Kanamadi, shared important information about the road鈥檚 restoration and provided a timeline for the work. The road is currently being temporarily repaired, with workers regularly mending it. Once the new utilities are fully commissioned, the permanent restoration project will begin. Kanamadi stated that the entire restoration work is expected to be completed by November 30, 2024.
