Delhi-Meerut RRTS: L&T begins laying tracks

Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has started track laying works for the Delhi鈥揗eerut Regional Rapid Transit System (Delhi鈥揗eerut RRTS) project of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

The RRTS includes a semi-high speed rail corridor of length 82.15 km having 22 stations and will connect Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut.

NCRTC had assigned the semi high-speed rail line鈥檚 ballastless and ballasted track work to Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in October last year.

Construction of a precast track slab factory is under establishment in Shatabdi Nagar, Meerut, to manufacture precast track slabs. These track slabs will be transported to the site and grouted on the viaduct slab to ensure fast track laying.

The first lot of Class A 880 grade rails have arrived at Duhai for laying tracks in the Maintenance Depot and is being manufactured by Jindal Steel and Power Limited in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh.

A total of 4,000 mt of 60 kg 880 Grade Class-A rails will be supplied for the Duhai depot line connecting the 17 km priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai, which is expected to become operational by March 2023.

According to NCRTC, the rest of the head hardened rails tracks will be made available in the coming months. A viaduct on a 4 km stretch has been completed so far, and the track laying works have been started in the said stretch.

The corridor is expected to become operational by 2025.
