Delhi Metro Phase 4 expansion boosts network with new corridors

The initiation of the construction for two new metro corridors within Delhi?s Metro Phase 4 is poised to gain momentum. It is anticipated that the tender process will commence shortly, and construction at the site will commence by the year's end. These corridors, namely the Indralok-Indraprastha and Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block Metro Corridors, will collectively span a distance of 20.76 km, significantly enhancing Delhi?s metro network.

According to information provided by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the government sanctioned the development of two new metro corridors in Delhi in March 2024. The Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor will predominantly be elevated, while the Indralok-Indraprastha corridor, except for a one-kilometre section, will be underground. The project is allocated a budget of Rs 83.99 billion, and the foundation stone for both corridors has been ceremoniously laid.

At present, construction is underway for three corridors under the Delhi Metro expansion initiative: the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Corridor, Majlis Park-Maujpur Corridor, and Tughlakabad-Aerocity Corridor. These corridors will collectively cover a distance of 65.20 kilometres. Upon the completion of these corridors, along with the addition of two more corridors in Phase 4, the total length of the metro network in the National Capital Region (NCR) will extend to 478.4 km.
