HMRTC to Extend Metro from Gurugram to Jhajjar

The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) is progressing with plans to extend the Gurugram Metro from Basai to Bhadsa in Jhajjar, with the ridership survey expected to be completed by the end of January, according to HMRTC officials.

In March, the authority had requested Railway India Technical and Engineering Services (RITES) to conduct a ridership survey, which will play a crucial role in finalising the project. The proposed route, covering 23.1 km from Basai to Bhadsa, will alleviate heavy traffic on this stretch.

The ridership survey will determine whether the extension should proceed from Basai Metro station to AIIMS in Bhadsa or from Dhansa Metro station in Delhi towards Bhadsa. Previously, a techno-feasibility study by the DMRC suggested 17 stations along the 23 km route.

A senior Haryana government official noted that the area between Gurugram and Bhadsa faces heavy traffic, with many people commuting to and from Delhi, Gurugram, and the newly planned AIIMS campus in Bhadsa.

Earlier this month, the HMRTC board approved the draft of a 36 km metro line between Sector 56 and Pachgaon, which will include 27 elevated stations. This line is expected to cost Rs 8,500 crore and will cover several developing sectors near Dwarka expressway and the central peripheral road.
