India launches 1 indigenously developed ATS system for DMRC

On Saturday, India made history by introducing the first-ever Train Control and Supervision System that was entirely produced domestically. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has introduced the i-ATS (Indigenous-Automatic Train Supervision) system on its first route, the red line (from Rithala to Shaheed Sthal). After France, Germany, Japan, Canada, and China, India is now the sixth nation with its own ATS products thanks to the introduction of i-ATS.

The i-ATS (Indigenous-Automatic Train Supervision) has been launched from the Operations Control Centre (OCC) located at Shastri Park by Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India and Chairman, Delhi Metro. There were several senior DMRC and BEL officials present, including Bhanu Prakash Srivastava, chairman and managing director of Bharat Electronics Limited, and Vikas Kumar, managing director of Delhi Metro (BEL).

The DMRC and Bharat Electronics Ltd worked together to develop the i-ATS (BEL). An MoU was signed by both parties in November 2022. A complete i-ATS Lab has been established in the DMRC IT Park to further the project, and a committed team from both organisations is working there to get the technology ready for use.

This project is in keeping with the "Made in India" and "Aatma Nirbhar Bharat" efforts for the Metro Rail Transportation Systems, both of which are directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

For use on existing corridors as well as planned independent lines of the Phase 4 Project, the Delhi Metro will also install the i-ATS system. i-ATS will be used to introduce the Preventative Maintenance modules in the Phase 4 corridors as well.

Later, it's anticipated that other rail-based systems, like Indian Railways, will operate using the i-ATS technology. This technology was created to be adaptable enough to function with the systems from other signalling manufacturers with the necessary modifications.

With this accomplishment, the nation has made progress towards a CBTC-based signalling system for the Metro line that was created domestically. A computer-based system called the ATS (Automatic Train Supervision) controls railway operations. It is a crucial component of the CBTC Signalling system.
