Indian Railways Straightens Tracks for Faster Trains

In a bid to accelerate train speeds and enhance railway infrastructure, Indian Railways has embarked on a project to straighten sharp curves along the tracks between Thiruvananthapuram and Mangalore. The initiative, launched on Monday, aims to facilitate smoother journeys and potentially increase the maximum speed of trains on these routes.

According to Manish Thapliyal, the Divisional Railway Manager of Thiruvananthapuram, the project focuses on improving track geometry without the need for land acquisition, thus expediting the process. Our goal is to alleviate sharp curves, allowing trains to operate at higher speeds. Currently, the maximum speed permitted on our division's railway lines is 110 km per hour, stated Thapliyal.

This development aligns with the ongoing efforts of the Indian government to bolster railway infrastructure and enhance passenger amenities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to inaugurate various railway projects nationwide, signaling a significant stride in the country's transportation sector. Additionally, PM Modi will inaugurate new train services and unveil infrastructure projects worth Rs 850 billion.

One of the highlights of PM Modi's agenda includes the inauguration of ten new Vande Bharat Express trains, catering to different routes across the nation. These trains, known for their speed and modern amenities, have garnered widespread popularity, particularly in Kerala. Thapliyal emphasized the positive reception of Vande Bharat Express trains in Kerala, noting their contribution to improving ticket availability and passenger satisfaction.

Alongside infrastructure enhancements, PM Modi will also champion initiatives supporting local artisans through the 'One Station, One Product' scheme. This scheme enables artisans to lease stalls at railway stations, showcasing and selling their goods for 15-day periods. The Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate additional stalls in Thiruvananthapuram district, further promoting local craftsmanship and entrepreneurship.

Amidst these developments, Thapliyal refuted allegations of delays attributed to accommodating Vande Bharat Express trains. He assured that necessary adjustments were made to train schedules without causing delays to other services.

As India's railway network undergoes modernization and expansion, these initiatives underscore the government's commitment to bolstering transportation infrastructure and fostering economic growth across the nation. PM Modi's upcoming inauguration ceremonies symbolize a significant milestone in India's journey towards a more efficient and interconnected railway system.
