A multi-level two-wheeler parking facility was recently inaugurated at the main entrance of Madurai railway junction, adding to the existing parking infrastructure at the station. With this addition, the station now has two designated parking areas, including an open parking lot near the main entrance.
Previously, three parking lots were available for two-wheelers near the main entrance, excluding the newly introduced multi-level facility. However, one of these parking lots has already been shut down, and another is scheduled to close in the second week of March. As a result, only two parking facilities will remain operational near the main entrance.
Due to on-going development work at the station, the main entrance has been temporarily closed, and an alternative entry point has been created near the booking counter.
The newly introduced multi-level parking facility is a premium service with a structured fee system based on duration. Charges are set at Rs 10 for up to two hours, Rs 20 for 2-6 hours, Rs 30 for 6-12 hours, Rs 40 for 12-24 hours, Rs 750 for monthly parking, and Rs 5 per helmet per day. The facility spans a ground floor and three additional levels, offering a total capacity of 700 two-wheelers. It is also equipped with charging points for electric vehicles.
In contrast, the open parking lot near the entrance is a non-premium facility with lower parking fees. The railway authorities have stated that any issues related to parking, which is operated on a contract basis, will be investigated and addressed.
Additionally, a multi-level car parking facility is planned for the future, once the station's on-going development work is completed. The station currently also has a multi-level two-wheeler parking facility and a car parking area near the western entrance.
