Manipur has made its appearance on the Indian Railways map. Rajdhani Express, a passenger train from Assam's Silchar railway station, reached Vaingaichunpao railway station of Manipur on July 2 for a trial run.
The passenger train covered a distance of 11 km with railway officials onboard.
According to the media, locals greeted the railway officers at Manipur's Jiribam railway station, where the train took a halt. Hoisting the national flag and singing the national anthem followed after it.
Railway officials, including North-East Frontier (NF) Railway senior PRO Nripen Bhattacharya, and CDO Silchar, Abdul Hakim, reached the Jiribam railway station from Silchar.
Bhattacharya told the media that the passenger train service from Vaingaichunpao to Silchar would commence soon. Additionally, he said that the broad-gauge train service was extended from Silchar up to Vaingaichunpao railway station.
N Biren Singh, Manipur chief minister, hailed the historic moment via his Twitter handle on July 3. The chief minister informed that the first trial run of a passenger train from Silchar to Vaingaichunpao had been successfully conducted on July 2, re-tweeting a clip of the passenger train shared by Rupin Sharma, an IPS officer.
The Vaingaichunpao-Imphal railway line is under construction, as reported. The Vaingaichunpao-Imphal railway line will be the longest railway tunnel once it is completed near Imphal, the capital of Manipur.
