In light of the approaching G20 meeting, the Pune corporation plans to halt metro rail construction in the city, which has been highlighted as a major cause of traffic congestion, for which the administration has been heavily chastised. On Thursday, Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil inspected the preparations for the G20 summit, which will be attended by delegations from roughly 36 countries. Municipal commissioner Vikram Kumar said that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is responsible for civic infrastructure-related work, which includes the repair and beautifying of roadways used by delegates during the summit. Officers from numerous government ministries were present at the meeting, and the minister expressed worry about the traffic mess. It was discovered that the barricades erected for metro construction were narrowing the highways and causing traffic mayhem.
