Prime Minister Narendra Modi will announce the Rs 473 crore project to upgrade the Kozhikode railway station to global standards through an online event to be held in Thiruvananthapuram. The project, which has been prepared by KITCO, the Kerala government's technical consultancy organisation, is expected to be completed within the next three years. As part of the project, the number of railway tracks will be increased from five to nine and two 12-metre wide foot overbridges will be built. There will be a multi-level parking facility, a 48-metre-wide concourse, and other amenities. Kozhikode railway station achieves a daily revenue of Rs 19.22 crores. Kozhikode Railway Station will receive a massive facelift with the completion of the project, said Kozhikode MP MK Raghavan in a press conference. He added that the second phase of the project launched by the UPA government in 2009 is undergoing. He said that there was a shift in power at the center in 2014 when KITCO presented the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Following this, the new government increased the number of railway stations set to receive facelifts from 100 to 400. Kozhikode and Chennai were the only stations in South India to be included in the initial phase of 23 railway stations selected, he added.
