Mumbai metro: Second rake for metro line 2A and 7 arrives

The second rake of Metro Line 2A and 7 has arrived in Mumbai, which will be introduced for trial run in the next two months in the city, according to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

On both the metro lines, a total of ten rakes will be made operational. In January, the first rake of the metro line had already arrived in Charkop depot Mumbai and was not used to undertake the trial run.

The six-coach train can also work as a driverless Metro, an alternative that will be examined, once the commercial operations start, said authorities. The metro cars will work on 25 kV AC traction power, and they will be equipped with CCTV monitoring cameras. These rakes also have a provision for transporting passengers' bicycles in the coaches.

A dynamic trial runs on a 20 km stretch on metro lines 2A and 7 is currently being carried out by the MMRDA. The trial run is held, with the integration of traction control and management system (TCMS).

Once the trial run is finished successfully on the 20 km stretch between Dhanukarwadi and Aarey on metro lines 2A and 7, it will be open to the public. Later, the complete corridor will be opened to the public.

Reportedly, in November 2018, the MMRDA had placed an order for 378 coaches costing Rs 3,015 crore. An order for 12 more trains of six coaches each for lines 2B, 7A, and 9, were placed by the authority.
