Mumbai Metro line 3: 18% of track laying work completed

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has announced that metro line 3 track laying work has 18% been completed. All the rails were imported in three lots last year from Japan via Mitsui. The construction and installation work of the trackwork has been assigned to Larsen & Toubro (L&T).

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) said that an overall track laying work of 18% has been completed on the underground Metro Line 3 connecting Colaba, Bandra, and SEEPZ. The total track to be installed on the corridor is 66.07 km.

The Head Hardened (HH) rails to be utilised in Head Hardened (HH) rails have been manufactured by a Japanese company Nippon. A total of 10,740 tonnes of rails will be required. These rails have been imported in three lots in the last year from Japan. Larsen and Toubro have been assigned the construction and installation work of the track work.

This Low Vibration Track technology is being used in India for the track works for the first time. The system has been designed by a Swiss company Sonneville AG to attenuate noise and vibration of a higher level that will be generated while the trains are operating.

As Metro line 3 will be passing underneath several heritage and old residential structures upon completion, the system will provide improved traveling comfort for its passengers while protecting the different old heritage structures above them.

A special sleeper casting factory has been constructed in Wadala for manufacturing the sleepers which will be used for tracks. According to MMRC around 201,600 sleeper blocks are required for the construction of the project.
