Namma Metro on track to complete 175 km rail project by 2025

The 175 km metro rail project in Bengaluru is on track to be completed by June 2025, according to the managing director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL), Anjum Parwez.

Parwez said that urban India was the most underserved region until the 1990s because urban design was out of step with travel connection or transportation difficulties. Shifting people from individualised transportation modes to multi-modal transportation systems was the biggest problem in urban mobility, he said.

Bengaluru will have 314 km of metro rail connectivity by 2041, Parwez said at a session on the 鈥榝uture of mobility鈥 at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2022 (BTS 2022). He added that metro line work was going smoothly on the airport side.

He said BMRCL receives much support from mobility start-ups to guarantee that commuters have last-mile connectivity. To get people to the nodal point and on their way to work, the corporation is collaborating with mobility service providers, he added.

He stated that BMRCL and the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) have discussed constructing bus stops at metro stations to make it simpler for passengers to board and depart both modes of transportation. Although the Karnataka government had stopped their activities, he recommended promoting carpooling and bike taxis.
