New Railway Terminal to Come Up Near Kempegowda Airport

Minister of State for Railways, V. Somanna, announced that a new railway terminal will be established near Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, to enhance passenger convenience. The terminal is part of the Circular Railway project aimed at connecting Bengaluru’s expanding outskirts.

At a press conference, Somanna confirmed that the survey for the Circular Railway project has been completed. Under the plan, four new terminals will be developed, including the one near the airport. He emphasised that railway infrastructure needs rapid expansion due to Bengaluru’s growing population.

Highlighting government efforts, Somanna stated that after assuming office, he prioritised the completion of old railway projects. Annual railway funding for Karnataka has increased from Rs 8.33 billion to between Rs 70 billion and Rs 80 billion, expediting project execution. He urged the State government to cooperate fully to ensure development.

Responding to a query on railway ticket concessions for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, Somanna mentioned that a request has been made to reinstate them. Although ticket prices were reduced by 46 per cent during the COVID-19 pandemic, he pledged to discuss restoring the concessions with the Prime Minister.
