New station planned at Bengaluru airport

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) has taken a significant step in advancing its infrastructure with the signing of a contract agreement with TATA Projects for the construction of five underground stations. This noteworthy development comes as part of a tender funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The scope of this project encompasses the construction of underground stations at key locations, including Kolathur Junction Metro, Srinivasa Nagar Metro, Villivakkam Metro (near Sub-urban), Villivakkam Bus Terminus Metro, and Villivakkam MTH Road Metro. The work to be undertaken involves the creation of entry/exit points, ventilation shafts, plumbing, earthmat installation, architectural finishes, and the installation of signages. Moreover, the project encompasses the construction of twin-bored tunnels, connecting Kolathur Junction Retrieval Shaft to Villivakkam MTH Road launching shaft and associated ramps, forming a U-Section within Corridor-5 of CMRL Phase II.

With the successful award of this contract, known as UGO6, CMRL has achieved a remarkable milestone - completing 100% of the award of civil and track contracts for Phase-II of the project. Phase-II is set to expand the metro network by 116.1 kilometers, connecting various parts of the city with a comprehensive metro system spanning three corridors.

This accomplishment represents a substantial leap forward in the city's commitment to enhancing urban mobility and public transportation infrastructure, ultimately benefiting the residents and commuters of Chennai.
