Pune Metro: Slum rehab begins for Kamgar Putala, Rajiv Gandhinagar

Pune鈥檚 Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) and the civic body have started relocating residents of the Kamgar Putala and Rajiv Gandhinagar slum to clear the land for the metro work.
The residents are being transferred to accommodations in Vimannagar and Hadapsar. The delayed plan saw action after several discussions and meetings with the stakeholders and technical formalities completion.
Recently, Deputy Chief Minister Pawar informed the officials concerned to facilitate the process after taking residents into confidence.
The Maharashtra Rail Corporation (MahaMetro), executing the project in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, plans to utilise the abandoned land for the viaduct, which is a bridge to cross the railway tracks and a station.
Over 1,000 families are suspected to be relocated in a phased way.
Deputy municipal commissioner Nitin Udas told the media the administration was fine-tuning the list of eligible residents for the last three months.
Udas said that the residents were informed to produce specific documents. Some did not submit proper documents and raised questions. And they held consultations in each case.
SRA officials have started the procedure of registering the homes among the sub-registrar offices. Officials said the process is expected to be finished by next week.
MahaMetro officials told the media that the plot is essential for the Metro project as a portion of the plot would be used for the piers of the elevated Vanaz-Ramwadi line, and a part would be reserved for the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar line, which is being developed by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority.
Moreover, an official said that the plans for using vacated land are being finalised.
