RLDA to invite bids for New Delhi, Bijwasan rly stations redevelopment

Additional director general, Rajiv Jain, told the media that the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) would invite bids for the redevelopment of New Delhi and Bijwasan railway stations. The detailed project report (DPR) is almost ready for the project.

The New Delhi railway station will be given on lease for 45 years that will redevelop further. Two flyovers will be connected with the railway station from Connaught Place to ease the uninterrupted flow of passengers. It is the largest and the second busiest railway station in the country, with over 4.5 lakh footfalls every day.

The station will have two different arrival and departure lounges at the New Delhi railway station. There will be 40 bus halts on the Paharganj side and 51 bus halts at the Ajmeri Gate side.

The architectural buildings of both the railway stations would be an example of signature style constructions of history and modern Indian cultures.

Jain added that the departure lobby of the New Delhi railway station would be 9,343 sq metres (m), arrival lobby of 10,737 sq m and waiting lobby area of 11,905 sq m, along with circulating areas of 26,033 sq m. Overall the railway station will cover 61,152 sq m. All the buildings in the railway station will be redeveloped, following the green building norms.

The redevelopment of the stations and their surroundings will be carried out like in state-of-the-art commercial areas in the public-private partnership (PPP) model. This redevelopment project is listed in the key projects in the Prime Minister Office (PMO)-monitored projects.
