Three high-demand corridors identified for metro rail in Trichy

Three prospective routes have been identified as high-demand corridors for the projected metro rail network in Trichy, according to a comprehensive mobility plan (CMP) for strengthening public transportation infrastructure finished by Trichy Corporation through a Bengaluru-based consultancy.

The 68 km total length of public transportation corridors that have been identified could be used as a master plan for the Trichy metro that the Chennai Metro Rail Company has proposed (CMRL).

Three routes were identified as high-demand metro rail lines based on the passengers per hour per direction data (PPHPD) gathered and estimates made through the year 2042. After passing through Srirangam and Thillai Nagar, Route One would connect Samayapuram in the northern suburbs with Vayalur in the western suburbs over a distance of 18.7 kilometres.

The longest of the three routes of 26 km is planned for Route 2. By the Central Bus Stand, it will link Thuvakudi with the Panjapur Integrated Bus Terminus. Route 3 will travel 23.3 km, linking the semi- ring road and the international airport at the Trichy railway junction with Panjapur. Integration of three metro corridor alignments is necessary at three locations. Potential intersections include Central Bus Stand, Junction, and Panchapur IBT. The number of bogies in the metro train and the type of network, Metro Lite or Metro Neo, for Trichy, will be created based on the city's capacity for visitors.
