Trial Runs to Begin on Mumbai Metro鈥檚 Yellow Line 2B Corridor

In a key step towards enhancing urban mobility in the city, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is set to initiate trial runs on Mumbai Metro鈥檚 Line 2B鈥攁lso known as the Yellow Line. This elevated corridor stretches 23.643 kilometres and will connect D N Nagar to Mandale through 20 stations once fully operational.

An MMRDA official confirmed the progress: 鈥淟ast week, we successfully electrified the overhead equipment. As a step towards making the metro corridor open for the public, trial runs would commence from Wednesday.鈥

About the Trial Run: The upcoming trial runs will be conducted on a 5.3 km stretch between Mandale and Diamond Garden, covering five metro stations:

Diamond Garden Shivaji Chowk BSNL Mankhurd Mandale

This phase will test operational readiness ahead of the corridor鈥檚 opening to the public.

Next Steps: Following successful initial trials, the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) of Indian Railways will be invited to conduct technical evaluations. This will be followed by the appointment of an Independent Safety Assessor.

Subsequently, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will assess the system. Upon satisfactory review, the corridor will be certified for public operations, bringing Mumbai closer to an expanded, efficient metro network.
