Under the leadership of Brotin Banerjee, MD and CEO, Tata Housing recently introduced 'Shubh Griha' - a residential project that will include properties in sizes including a small one-room kitchen, large one room kitchen and 1BHK. These projects, having a balanced mix of buildings and open spaces, will be constructed under the guidance of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The flatpack dwelling will be available with prefabricated materials, including doors and windows, for a house of around 20 sq m in size. Its materials will consist of coconut or jute cladding complete with interior layouts. The proposed price of the ready-to-assemble kit will be around $US 700. The homes will be sold to those living in villages and in bulk to councils that are looking to build up their respective areas. The first township will be built in the Mumbai suburb of Boisar, in Thane district. The model will later be replicated across several metros, tier II and III cities in the country.
