IOS SAGAR Strengthens India-Mauritius Maritime Ties at Port Louis

As part of its ongoing operational deployment in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), IOS SAGAR made a port call at Port Louis, Mauritius from 26鈥�28 April 2025, further reinforcing the strong maritime partnership between India and Mauritius.
During the harbour stay, the ship鈥檚 Commanding Officer paid a courtesy call on the Commandant of the Mauritius Coast Guard, affirming the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral maritime cooperation. Select members of the multinational crew visited key training facilities of the Mauritius Police Force (MPF), including the Special Mobile Force Squadron, Maritime Air Squadron, Coast Guard Training School, and the Police Helicopter Squadron. These exchanges fostered dialogue on mutual areas of interest, operational insights, and joint efforts in maritime security.
Cultural and Community Engagements
The port call featured a variety of community and cultural engagements. A joint yoga session was conducted onboard IOS SAGAR, drawing participation from both the ship鈥檚 crew and MPF personnel. The Commandant of the National Coast Guard also attended the event. Additionally, the crew and MPF took part in a friendly volleyball match, enhancing camaraderie and mutual respect between the two forces.
The ship was opened to visitors, including members of the MPF, the Indian diaspora, and local groups. Guests were given a tour of the vessel and introduced to its navigation systems, operational capabilities, and daily life onboard. The engagement promoted awareness of maritime operations and fostered goodwill among the local community. As part of recreational activities, the crew also participated in a trek to Signal Mountain, a prominent landmark near Port Louis.
Continuing Maritime Cooperation in the IOR
Upon departing Port Louis, IOS SAGAR is scheduled to conduct a joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance operation in coordination with the Mauritius Coast Guard. This cooperative initiative reflects the shared objective of enhancing maritime domain awareness and safeguarding regional waters.
Following the completion of this operation, IOS SAGAR will continue its deployment to Port Victoria, Seychelles, further contributing to regional security, capacity building, and friendly ties across the Indian Ocean.
