JNPT registers a y-o-y growth of over 21% in cargo handling in 2021

In July 2021, Mumbai鈥檚 Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) recorded 433,533 TEUs (Twenty-Feet Equivalent Units), up 21.15% from 344,316 TEUs the previous year.
During the first four months of FY 2021-22, JNPT handled 1,797,838 TEUs, a 50.80% increase over the previous year's container traffic of 1,192,165 TEUs.
In July 2021, JNPT managed 77,662 TEUS of ICD traffic from 503 rakes, for a Rail-Coefficient of 17.91%.
The launch of rail service between JNPT and Balli (in South Goa) on the Konkan Railway is one of several initiatives being pursued by JNPT to improve the model shift from the road to the rail, as well as other initiatives such as the ITRHO which has helped to increase the rail quotient at JNPT by connecting export ICD boxes to respective terminals on time, track productivity, efficiency, improve train placement and cost-effective handling, and reduce the dwell time of import ICD boxes.
The JNPT hospital has administered over 10,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine jabs as a socially conscious organisation committed to stakeholders, employees, and the local community, according to Sethi. The immunisation drive is being held for the benefit of not only JNPT employees but also the local communities who live in and around the port.
The Gateway Terminals India Pvt Ltd (GTIPL), the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT), the Nhava Sheva International Gateway Terminal (NSIGT), the Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT), and the newly commissioned Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Private Limited (BMCTPL) are the five container terminals that JNPT currently operates.
