Sonowal launches maritime window and MMD at SagarSetu

The launch of two digital modules within the SagarSetu (NLP-Marine) platform took place today, as announced by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for the Ports, Shipping & Waterways and AYUSH. The esteemed presence of Shripad Y Naik, Minister of State for the Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), and senior officials from the Ministry marked the inauguration of the Maritime Single Window (MSW) and the Mercantile Maritime Department (MMD).

During the event, Sonowal expressed, in indirect speech, that in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways is on a journey to transform and modernise the ports, ensuring their readiness for the future. The Maritime Single Window (MSW) module of SagarSetu (NLP-Marine) aligns with global standards established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The implementation of the MSW system through SagarSetu (NLP-M) adheres to the processes mandated by the FAL Convention of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), promoting harmonisation and standardisation of processes set by the IMO. Sonowal emphasised that this initiative serves as an example of the commitment to international compliance and efficiency.

He further added that the launch of the MMD and MSW modules of SagarSetu (NLP-Marine) signifies more than just technological advancement; it reflects a commitment to shaping the future of India's Maritime Sector through the digitization of processes.
