Rourkela smart projects worth Rs 800 crore to be completed in June

Keeping an eye on the Men’s Hockey World Cup- 2023, the Rourkela Smart City Ltd (RSCL) plans on completing the main projects approximately worth Rs 800 crore by June 2022, considering that there won’t be a third Covid-19 wave.

The Birsa Munda Stadium is currently under construction and is considered to be India’s largest. It is going to be completed by March 2022. However, the multi-level car parking will be completed soon. The Biju Patnaik indoor stadium is almost ready.

The development of 11 stormwater drains worth Rs 95 crore that is under construction will be ready by April. Other projects that are under construction include the Panposh market complex renovation worth Rs 48.18 crore, tribal museum, control and command center, convention center along with an auditorium worth Rs 116.76 crore. A smart road phase-II project that will have an underground drainage facility along multi-utility pipelines worth Rs 104.71 and development of DAV pond along with landscaping are also being developed.

The Brahmani riverfront project that costs approximately Rs 44.30 crore is pending due to the tender process. Demarcation was carried out and soon the riverfront project will be taken up. The new recreational facility set up in Koelnagar worth Rs 15.33 crore is likely to miss the completion target set in June.

According to officials, all roads of the RSCL, Rourkela Municipal Corporation, and Public Works department will be completed in the upcoming six or eight months.
