GVMC corporators to go on a smart cities study tour

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is seeking a letter of consent from the corporators of the city to participate in a proposed study tour. The study tour will be conducted between July 29 and August 7. The corporators will visit various smart cities in the country to study their best practices in solid waste and sewage management. Some of these smart cities include Delhi, Chandigarh, Agra, Shimla and Manali. The corporators will also study other developmental programmes being implemented in these cities apart from the Swachh Bharat initiatives. The study tour will help the GVMC in planning similar initiatives from these cities in Vizag. The last time such a study tour was conducted was before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. A state-level delegation, including several officials of the GVMC, visited Indore in February 2020 for a study tour. Based on their observations, the GVMC adopted several best practices relating to solid waste management.
