Nashik smart body redesigns roundabouts beautification plan

Following complaints from traders and locals, the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation (NMSCDCL) has redesigned the beautification plan of two roundabouts in Raviwar Karanja and the Nimani bus stand.

Work on the project will begin in two to three months.

The size of the chowks at these two locations will be reduced to avoid vehicular traffic congestion, Sumant More, the CEO of the smart city company, told the media.

The enhancement of these iconic chowks is part of the road-improvement project. Greenery, lights, and other elements will be added to these newly designed roundabouts.

More specifically, the goal is not only to improve the aesthetics of the area but also to improve traffic flow and reduce accidents.

The smart city's major and minor road development project in the old city area includes the development of roundabouts at both locations. A total of 171 roads with a total length of 39 km are being built.

The smart city's plans to build a large traffic island at Raviwar Karanja and the area near Nimani Bus stand were met with opposition by traders in both places in December last year.

The Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) had also conducted tests by cordoning off traffic islands so that vehicles could pass through. The trials lasted a few days, and the results were kept track of. The goal of the exercise was to figure out how big the circular traffic island should be.

The vehicular traffic at both chowks had been affected as a result of this. Traders also objected to the decision to expand the size of the circular traffic island. After consulting with local officials, smart city officials said they had redesigned the project and reduced the size of the traffic islands.
