Smart City Mission: Jammu's Transformation to Sustainable City

According to Rahul Yadav, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Jammu Smart City (JSCL) and the commissioner of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), the focus of their work is to make Jammu sustainable and economically vibrant, particularly in the area of tourism. He stated that their goal is to transform Jammu into a city that is sustainable and economically vibrant, emphasising tourism and improving the quality of life. Yadav mentioned that JSCL has successfully completed various projects as part of the Smart Cities Mission, including the recent inauguration of the "Improvement of Road from Dogra Chowk to KC Chowk" and other initiatives such as the modernization of Narwal Mandi, the introduction of a public bicycle sharing system, the construction of state-of-the-art multi-level parking facilities, the facade lighting on the iconic Tawi bridges, and the captivating sound and light show at Bagh-e-Bahu.

Yadav also highlighted that the Smart Cities Mission, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 25, 2015, aims to enhance the residents' quality of life and drive economic growth across India. Jammu was selected as one of the smart cities during the third round of selections in June 2017.

Yadav mentioned that JSCL has significantly contributed to enhancing the aesthetic appeal of Jammu by implementing vibrant wall paintings throughout the city and carrying out landscaping projects in prominent institutions such as Jammu University and the Government College for Women. He further stated that JSCL is actively pursuing the ambitious development of the Tawi riverfront project, which is expected to have a transformative impact on the city's tourism potential.

In addition, Yadav shared that electric buses will soon be introduced in the city to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce carbon emissions.
