Uttar Pradesh to Develop 57 Smart Cities with Rs 400 Bn Plan

Uttar Pradesh is set to convert 57 municipalities into smart cities under a large-scale digital urban development initiative. The Urban Development Department has announced an investment of Rs 400 billion, with an initial disbursement of Rs 1.45 billion, to kick-start the project.
The plan aims to enhance civic life through cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices. Digital systems will be integrated into public services to boost transparency and citizen engagement. Command and control centres equipped with artificial intelligence-based management tools, CCTV networks, and chatbot services will serve as the digital backbone of these cities.
Innovative features include smart parking, digital traffic control, automated lighting, uninterrupted utilities, and waterlogging solutions. Environmentally conscious initiatives such as integrated cowshed management and pollution control measures will also be introduced.
Seventeen cities have already implemented similar smart systems, laying the foundation for this broader transformation. The initiative will improve public infrastructure with concrete roads, redesigned junctions, digital libraries, community centres, and exhibition spaces. Special vending zones will also be created to support street vendors and ensure inclusive growth.
Through this ambitious project, Uttar Pradesh aims to lead India鈥檚 digital urban revolution by creating smart, green, and citizen-centric cities.
