With the launch of India鈥檚 largest Greenfield Domestic Cargo Terminal (DCT), Kempegowda International Airport (BLR Airport) is reshaping India鈥檚 cargo logistics. In collaboration with Shell Mobility India, BLR Cargo has introduced a cutting-edge Airport Truck Management Facility (ATMF) to streamline truck operations, reduce congestion, and improve efficiency across the airport cargo ecosystem.
Handling nearly 1,600 trucks daily, the ATMF provides over 250 dedicated parking bays and offers a digital-first, paperless entry and exit system. This innovation has slashed truck turnaround times from four hours to just one hour, with 78% of trucks entering the terminal within 20 minutes of arrival.
Key features:
鈥 Automated check-ins and digital approvals for faster truck clearance
鈥 Handheld devices that expedite processing at entry points
鈥 24/7 CCTV surveillance for enhanced security
鈥 App-based mechanisms for real-time scheduling and movement tracking
鈥 Driver amenities such as clean dormitories, washrooms, food outlets, and mobile charging stations
Satyaki Raghunath, COO, Bangalore International Airport Limited, said the ATMF addresses the rising cargo movement while also improving truck driver welfare. 鈥淭his facility ensures cargo movement is faster, more efficient, and better organised, significantly reducing wait times and congestion,鈥 he noted.
Sanjay Varkey, Director of Shell Mobility India, emphasised the blend of logistics and care: 鈥淏y integrating technology with essential driver services, we are redefining logistics efficiency while supporting the people at its core.鈥
Industry Applauds the ATMF Impact
Blue Dart Aviation
Chethan V, GM Airport Operations, remarked that ATMF has helped prioritise trucks with critical cargo, easing congestion and improving flow to their warehouse, which handles 125 trucks daily.
DHL Express
Mayank Puri, Gateway Manager, highlighted how the ATMF has "remarkably improved decongestion" and enabled "instant digital processing," resulting in smoother truck and staff vehicle movements.
Shreeji Translogistics
Dileepa BM, CEO 鈥 Bonded Trucking, praised the structured truck movement process and the quality of amenities, calling it 鈥渙ne of the top facilities offered to drivers.鈥
With the ATMF, BLR Airport not only enhances cargo efficiency but also sets new benchmarks for sustainable, technology-driven logistics in India.
