CBRE South Asia Private Limited has been appointed as the advisor for the Multi-modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) development across five major locations, including Coimbatore, Chennai, Mumbai, Silchar, and Hyderabad.
These projects are a part of Prime Minister (PM) of India's Bharatmala Pariyojana programme established for the world-class infrastructure development devoted to smooth and seamless freight transport across multiple modes of transport.
The 35 MMLP projects are likely to generate over 2 lakh job opportunities in the coming years and decrease logistics costs by a significant margin.
Currently, over 70% of the national cargo moves via roads and national highways causing pollution and stress on the roads.
The Government of India's (GoI) commitment to improving the efficiency of Multi-modal Infrastructure connectivity in the nation underpins its bigger idea toward a strengthened and dynamic economic and business ecosystem. This project will boost the national economy by facilitating and encouraging seamless exports, said Anshuman Magazine, Chairman & CEO - India, South-East Asia, Middle East & Africa, CBRE.
CBRE is also evaluating pre-feasibility for the development of MMLPs across multiple other areas.
Our global understanding and niche expertise in this segment will assist in providing essential support and counsel on projects of such scale and magnitude. CBRE is consulting execution agencies National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) for the MMLPs development in Mumbai, Coimbatore, Chennai, Silchar, and Hyderabad.
They will also provide state of art, value-added services such as international grade warehousing, product assembly clusters, cold storage, packaging and sorting areas, a commercial zone, and a dedicated customs window to accommodate a broad range of businesses and cargo consignments of different sizes, while these MMLPs will have excellent connectivity.
The MMLP will enhance the country's logistics sector by reducing overall freight charges and time, optimising warehousing costs, lowering vehicular pollution & congestion, and enhancing the tracking and traceability of consignments. Along with the five projects currently assigned to CBRE, we look forward to many more opportunities of working with the implementing agencies, said Preetham Mehra, Senior Executive Director & Head - Government Practice, CBRE India.
