Housing societies adhering to zero waste concept to get 50% tax waiver

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to give a 50% waiver on cleanliness tax for the housing societies that will be opting for the zero-waste concept.

If the pending property tax is paid in one installment by the societies before June 30 along with setting up a composting system (onsite) and a fully functional sewage treatment plant (STP) with the zero-waste concept, the housing societies will get a 50% waiver on the cleanliness tax.

According to the officials, a housing system with a sewage treatment plant and the composting system will be getting a 30% waiver. A housing system with an onsite composting system will be getting a 20% waiver.

The process to set an onsite composting system for treating wet garbage should be started immediately for the housing societies that are generating waste in bulk. Due to this initiative the housing societies there will be a reduction in the daily garbage collection. The garbage in civic limits can be 1,100 metric tonne every day. According to public notice, the PCMC commissioner, Rajesh Patil said that the housing societies should commence the onsite composting on their respective premises. If not, they will be facing action under the solid waste management rules, 2016.
