2 lakh tonne of waste will be removed from Bathinda by December 2023

The municipal corporation has finally given the bio-mining project, under which 2 lakh tonne of legacy garbage that have been accumulating at a dump site on the Bathinda-Mansa Road for around three decades will be cleaned and removed, a deadline of December 2023 after years of hanging fire.

The project has been in the works for years, but due to MC officials' lack of ambition, it never got off the ground. The Bathinda municipal corporation was previously ordered by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to finish legacy waste bio-remediation by December 2022. The Green Tribunal granted the MC's request to extend the deadline until the end of 2023 after it failed to meet the original deadline.

The local body has started the bidding procedure, and the municipal corporation has announced that the tenders will be opened on September 22.

According to officials, waste is no longer being thrown onto the Bathinda-Mansa Road's garbage mountain.
