Bihar to get Rs 27 billion fund for Clean Ganga Project

The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has approved river rejuvenation projects in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal totaling over Rs 27 billion. Sewerage infrastructure is being built in cities/towns such as Kolkata, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Motihari, and Dhanbad, among others, with a special focus on Ganga tributaries.
Furthermore, the NMCG has approved scientific research into floral diversity as well as conservation projects along the Ganga River's banks. It will be carried out in collaboration with Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Research Institute (PRI) and Patanjali Organic Research Institute (PORI), both of which are located in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
Among the four states, projects in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, will receive the most funding, totaling more than Rs 8.08 billion, for pollution abatement in Damodar, a major tributary of the Ganga. These projects, which include the construction of five sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a total capacity of 192 million litres per day (MLD), interception and diversion, and other works, aim to tap all of the town's drains, which indirectly pollute the Ganga.
The 46th meeting of the NMCG's executive committee approved these projects in Jharkhand, as well as others in UP, Bihar, and West Bengal, last week.
