Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) commissioner Anindita Mitra visited the corporation鈥檚 major project sites, including the construction and demolition (C&D) waste plant in Industrial Area Phase-I, the Material Recovery Facility Station, and the Sewerage Treatment Plant at the three BRD in Chandigarh. The plant's engineers were ordered by the commissioner to ensure that the 150 mt C&D plant was operating at full capacity every day. Mitra also stated that the machinery would be upgraded soon to increase capacity, allowing the MC to complete the majority of its projects using materials from this facility. The chief engineer informed the commissioner that the C&D waste plant's operations include the processing of construction and demolition waste as well as the production of concrete products for use in pavements, roads, and fencing, among other things. The commissioner then proceeded to the material recovery facility centre at 3 BRD and Industrial Area, Phase-I, where she was briefed on the centre's operations by the joint commissioner. A chief engineer explained that door-to-door waste collection vehicles transport segregated waste to the material recovery facility, which has dedicated space for sorting recoverable dry waste into categories such as paper, cards, recyclable plastics, glass bottles, and metal. At the compost plant in Sector 25, Daddumajra, Chandigarh, dry waste left over after the recovery of recyclable materials is compacted. Within the material recovery facility, weighbridges have been installed to measure dry and wet waste. The MC commissioner paid a visit to the three BRD sewerage treatment plant, where she reviewed Chandigarh's wastewater management system. The chief engineer gave a presentation on sewage treatment at the STP. Mitra also paid a visit to the Chandigarh Water Works in Sector 39, where she learned that 87 MGD canal water is delivered from the Kajauli Water Works and distributed further. Image Source
