G Asok Kumar elected as Director-General for Clean Ganga mission

Additional Secretary of Jal Shakti, G Asok Kumar, took over the position of new Director-General for the National Mission for Clean Ganga under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
Earlier, he was the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Director in the Ministry of Power and served as the Executive Director in the National Mission for Clean Ganga.
Kumar conducted the Jal Shakti Abhiyan campaign, which led to the sanction of more than 9.5 lakh water conservation and rainwater harvesting structures across India.
He was also under the initiatives of water budgets, water audits, water irrigation, improving water efficiency, etc. He also supported the construction of over 0.14 million toilets in 1,000 schools in the Nizamabad district and was also responsible for supplying drinking water to over 3 million people in Hyderabad.
He has worked in many other sectors, including infrastructure, civil aviation, urban planning, power, sports, health, welfare, education and IT.
Previously, he completed many infrastructure projects, including the Outer Ring Road project, Phase-2 MGD Krishna Drinking Water project, MGD Godavari Drinking Water project and many Sewerage Treatment Plants. Kumar is also the founder and president of the India Smart Grid Forum.
