The centre has released the second tranche of Rs 360.95 crore to expedite the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Uttarakhand.
Around Rs 721.90 crore had been released in two tranches in 2020-21 in Uttrakhand. The central government had allocated Rs 1,443.80 crore fund for implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission in 2021-22.
PM Narendra Modi has made it a priority to supply tap water to every rural household in India. The Jal Jeevan Mission was implemented in partnership with the states in 2019.
Uttarakhand has planned to become Har Ghar Jal state by the end of next year. The government will provide full assistance in supplying water to every rural home.
As a part of the scheme, Rs 714 crore has been allocated for 58,500 homes in 846 villages across 11 districts of Uttarakhand, benefitting over 3 lakh people.
During 2019, only 1.30 lakh rural households had a tap water supply. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the state provided a tap water supply to 6.22 lakh households. In 2021-22 the state had planned to provide tap water connections to 2.64 lakh houses, out of which 2,438 villages and 620 blocks have been provided with tap water connections.
The state has undertaken community activities like engaging in Village Water and Sanitation Committee or Pani Samiti. The state has Pani Samiti in 14,376 villages, and the Village Action Plan has been developed in 14,524 villages.
Nearly 39,202 women in the state have been trained to conduct water quality tests using Field Test Kits (FTKs). In Uttarakhand, there are 27 water quality testing laboratories for the general people to get their water samples tested at a nominal cost.
To ensure a safe tap water supply in schools, ashrams and Anganwadi centres, PM Modi had announced a 100-days campaign, which was launched by Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on 2 October 2020. All the schools in the state and Anganwadi centres have been provided with a tap water supply.
In 2019, from 19.20 households in the country, 3.23 crore had a tap water supply, which has now increased to 5.47 crore after the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission. Currently, 8.70 crore rural houses have potable water taps. Rural households in 83 districts and over 1.29 lakh villages are receiving a tap water supply.
