Greater Noida to Get E-Waste Facility with Citywide Collection Points

The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) is set to implement a comprehensive e-waste management system aimed at addressing the region's growing electronic waste concerns. In line with the Swachh Bharat Mission and E-Waste (Management) Rules, the project includes the establishment of a dedicated e-waste processing facility complemented by citywide collection points. The facility will use advanced technology to dismantle, segregate, and recycle valuable materials such as metals, plastics, and glass while ensuring the safe disposal of hazardous components. GNIDA will provide the land, and an agency will be selected to manage operations. The project is expected to be fully operational within three years of signing the agreement. Monitoring mechanisms, including CCTV surveillance and digital weighment systems, will ensure transparency. A structured pricing system has been established for functional and non-functional electronic items. For instance, functional laptops and computers are priced at Rs 792 and Rs 150 per kg, respectively, while non-functional units are valued at Rs 264 and Rs 31 per kg. Functional refrigerators are priced at Rs 50 per kg, compared to Rs 10 per kg for non-functional ones. Similarly, smartphones in working condition are valued at Rs 764 per kg, while non-functional ones are priced at Rs 255 per kg. GNIDA has invited startups, private enterprises, and NGOs specialising in e-waste management to participate. The facility's operational costs will be partially offset by selling recycled materials, with financial assistance available to ensure the project's viability. Expressions of Interest (EOI) are open, with submissions due by December 15. Presentation schedules will be communicated via email to participants. (TOI)
