IIM Indore, MoHUA ink MoU for waste management training

MoHUA In a step to encourage cleanliness and hygiene, IIM Indore has teamed with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) at IIM Indore, offering the best leadership and training for managing sanitation and waste across urban India.
A memorandum of understanding for this was signed by Prof Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore, and Roopa Mishra, Joint Secretary, MoHUA, last week. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri unveiled the CoE during the Swachh Shehar Samvad and Tech Exhibition in Delhi.
Hardeep Singh Puri said on the occasion, 鈥淭here have been Centres of Excellence earlier too, but when they take a 鈥楽wachhata Dimension鈥� and start providing the highest of academic rigor, we realise that we are on the way to Aatmnirbhar Bharat.鈥�
Sharing details about the MoU, Prof Rai said that IIM Indore has received a grant of Rs 199.50 million from the MoHUA. 鈥業ndore has been the 鈥楥leanest City鈥� for the last five years under the Swachh Bharat Survekshan. The Centre of Excellence under the MoU will design and implement training and development courses for the political leadership, including mayors and ward councillors, to build their capacities, skills, and sensitivity. 鈥淭his training would strengthen their abilities to drive the initiatives for urban sanitation and waste management,鈥� he said.
