Patiala water pipelines to be repaired under Rs 503 cr project

Patiala city will see a complete repair of old water pipelines under the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board鈥檚 canal water supply project of Rs 503 crore.

According to the officials, half of the project work is finished, while the remaining work will be completed after uprooting the 360 km of city roads to supply the drinking water.

Officials said the project includes establishing a clear water reservoir of 17.28 million litres, a storage and sedimentation tank of 236 million litres, and installing a 360 km long new pipeline with 12 overhead tanks and 16 underground tanks.

The project work is around 40% complete. The remaining part will have 12 new overhead water tanks at village Jhill, Tripuri, Focal Point, Veer Haqiqat Rai Park, and other places, along with the renovation of 13 old tanks.

Municipal Corporation Commissioner Aaditya Uppal said that the project aims to provide drinking water to every family. Water pipelines have been laid in the city to provide water from submersible tanks. As a part of the project, water will be supplied from the canal to all households enabling people to drink it directly from the taps.

Officials said different types of pipelines have been laid in the city, including old cast iron pipes, cemented pipes, galvanised iron pipes and ductile iron pipes.

The corporation has recently installed ductile iron pipes on an 8 km stretch under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme. The same water pipelines will be installed in the city.

Uppal said that uprooted roads would be repaired after laying the water pipelines.
