Premier Energies Ltd, a leading Indian solar cell and module manufacturer, has entered into a 74:26 joint venture with Taiwan-based Sino-American Silicon Products Inc. (SAS), the parent firm of GlobalWafers—currently the world’s third-largest producer of semiconductor silicon wafers.
The new joint venture will set up a cutting-edge manufacturing facility in India with a capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW) per annum. The plant will focus on slicing polysilicon ingots into silicon wafers, which will then be used in the production of photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules.
The collaboration combines Premier Energies large-scale solar manufacturing capabilities with SAS’s global expertise in silicon wafer technology, aiming to strengthen India’s domestic solar supply chain.
“This agreement marks our entry into solar wafer manufacturing as part of our backward integration strategy, said Chiranjeev Saluja, Managing Director of Premier Energies. “Partnering with SAS will help us enhance local production and contribute to the Make-in-India initiative.
Doris Hsu, Chairperson and CEO of SAS and GlobalWafers, added, “This partnership will support a critical part of the solar supply chain for both Indian and international markets. It will also improve operational resilience while capitalising on India’s strong market demand.
