Since its inception in the mid-1980s, UltraTech Cement has come a long way. The Aditya Birla company has eleven integrated plants, one white cement plant and one clinkerisation plant, which is based in the UAE. Overall, the company has 15 grinding units across the world - 11 in India, two in the UAE and one each in Bahrain and Bangladesh. It also has two rail bulk terminals in India, three coastal terminals, out of which two are located in India and one in Sri Lanka, not to mention 101 concrete plants across 35 locations in India. UltraTech has very recently acquired the 4.8 mtpa Gujarat unit of Jaypee Cement Corporation for Rs 3,800 crore. The acquired unit has a 57 MW coal-based power plant with a 30 MW DG (diesel generator) back-up, limestone reserves sufficient to run the plant at current capacity for 90 years and a captive jetty at Sewagram. The new plant is expected to raise UltraTech's domestic capacity to 59 million tonne from the current 54 million tonne. With new expansion plans in Karnataka, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh set to go on stream by 2015, UltraTech's capacity is expected to touch 70 mtpa. The new acquisition, while boosting up the company's production capacity will also help it move ahead of its immediate rival Holcim in the long run.

The company's standalone revenue in 2012-2013 rose 10.85 per cent to Rs 21,156.12 crore while its net profit rose 11.42 per cent to 2,677.73 crore from Rs 2,403.26 crore in the previous year.
