State-owned BEML announced the official handover of an indigenously developed electric rope shovel to Coal India, a major player in the mining industry.
The mining equipment was officially handed over to Northern Coalfields CMD B. Sairam, with Coal India CMD PM Prasad and BEML CMD Shantanu Roy present, as stated by the company.
BEML stated that the launch of the BRS21, the country's largest indigenously designed and developed electric rope shovel, marked a significant milestone for India's mining sector and contributed to the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission.
The BRS21 is a high-capacity electric rope shovel, specifically designed for large-scale overburden removal in open-cast mining operations. With an operating weight of 720 tonnes and a 21-cubic-metre bottom dump bucket, it is one of the most capable shovels globally.
Shantanu Roy, CMD of BEML, remarked that the successful development of this massive piece of mining equipment in just 24 months highlighted the company's engineering capabilities and collective determination. He added that it was not only a victory for BEML but also a pivotal moment for India's coal sector, ushering in a new era of sustainable and self-reliant mining solutions.
BEML, operating under the Ministry of Defence, functions across three sectors: construction and mining, rail and metro, and defence and aerospace.
