CIL launches Spectral Enhancement (SPE) to ease coal supply process

Coal India Ltd (CIL) has launched new Spectral Enhancement (SPE) software to ease the coal delivery process.

The new software helps identify thin seams of coal under the earth crust and enhance the coal assessment resources using seismic surveys during the process of coal exploration.

It was essential to launch the SPE software because the current seismic survey techniques for coal resource exploration have limitations in identifying the thin coal seams under the earth, and it is now possible because the new software helps improve the resolution of seismic signals resulting in the delineation of thinnest coal seams.

In association with Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI), the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI), the research and development (R&D) arm of CIL, has developed this first of its kind software, and the company will also file for its copyright protection.

This 鈥楳ade in India鈥 software is cost-effective and time-saving, thus helping in boosting the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission in coal production.

Pramod Agrawal, CMD of CIL, launched the software in the presence of the R&D Board of CIL, consisting of senior directors and expert members from reputed institutes and organisations. CIL accounts for 80% of coal output in India.
