IIT (ISM) ties up with BHEL, IOCL for coal gasification plant

IIT (ISM), Dhanbad is planning a two-tonne per day coal gasifier in the gasification plant that it would set up at its Nirsa campus in collaboration with BHEL to extract carbon monoxide and hydrogen from coal for use as fuel, under a project awarded by the Indian Oil Corp (IOCL). The institute is also contemplating starting a centre for hydrogen technology.

Institute director Prof Rajeev Shekhar said, 鈥淭he institute would provide technical services to industries on a commercial basis in the near future. We would start a skill centre and a research park at our Nirsa campus to put the institute on par with institutions of international repute. We would create an artificial mine at Nirsa for research and training purposes.鈥�
