Hyundai鈥檚 EcoGram Converts Gurugram鈥檚 Waste to Clean Energy

Hyundai鈥檚 EcoGram, a biogas plant and material recovery facility located in Gurugram, Haryana, has been established to support circular economy initiatives. The facility collects both wet and dry waste from 20 bulk waste generators, including residential welfare associations (RWAs), corporate offices, and commercial complexes, with assistance from the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG).
At the facility, the collected waste undergoes processing鈥攚et waste is converted into biogas, which is then used to generate electricity, while dry waste is sorted for recycling. Since its inception, the facility has recycled over 1,115,370 kilograms of garbage and has contributed to a reduction of more than 144,000 kilograms of CO? emissions. Additionally, since 2022, it has consistently produced 200 kilowatts of power daily.
By mitigating greenhouse gas emissions that would typically be released from landfills, EcoGram has significantly contributed to environmental sustainability. The site also features 鈥淓arth-Shala,鈥� an open-air theatre equipped with educational display boards and a seating area, designed to engage and inform visitors. So far, around 1,087 individuals鈥攊ncluding schoolchildren, government officials, corporate representatives, and international delegates鈥攈ave toured the facility to gain insights into sustainable waste management practices.
