Tata Power to set up 3-circuit transmission tower at Mumbai metro site

Tata Power announced that its project team designed and proposed to build a novel 3-circuit high-tension transmission tower at a Mumbai Metro construction site.

Under every safety precaution, the overall cost of the tower project would be Rs 1 crore.

The tower would carry 220 kV power lines overhead and promote clearance of obstructing transmission lines across the Mumbai Metro rail network among Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, and Amar Mahal.

It would highly help the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) and consumers by saving Rs 30 crore per circuit on infrastructure development and ensuring no power supply interruption during the construction work.

The purpose of this innovative tower design is to set down a part of the proposed network of Mumbai Metro rail under the current EHV transmission lines of Tata Power.

The project team conducted a detailed study regarding the innovative design of 3-circuit.

Tata Power's project team offered to increase the tower's height to a record 50.1 metres from 35.7 m without impacting the regular power supply to MMRDA or Mumbai Metro.

After proposing this, it targets to ensure the speedy development of public transport infrastructure while also managing uninterrupted and quality power supply.

MMRDA and Metro Project Implementation Unit praised the designed scheme of Tata Power, as it would save the cost of new tower designs and also decrease the period of the project.

The project innovation of Tata also received a Silver Award under the Breakthrough Category of the CII National KAI-ZEN Competition.
