Minister of Labour and Employment Bhupender Yadav launched the e-SHRAM portal to keep a database of 38 crore workers in the unorganised sector. The government aims to register 38 crore unorganised sector workers, through the portal. The e-SHRAM portal registrations started on Thursday. Yadav said a system is being prepared to register 38 crore unorganised workers for the first time in the history of India. It will also help in delivering different social security schemes being implemented by the central and state governments. The portal will prove to be a tremendous boost for the last-mile delivery of services, Yadav said. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved accidental insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh to each registered unorganised worker on the portal. If a portal registered worker meets with an accident, he or she will be eligible for Rs 1 lakh on partial disability and amount on death or permanent disability. A national toll-free number 14434 was also launched. A toll-free number will support and address the worker's questions seeking registration on the portal. An e-SHRAM card containing a 12 digit unique number will be issued to the workers as part of the initiative. The purpose behind the move is the integration of the government's social security schemes. The workers' details will also be shared with state governments and departments. Apart from filling in other important information, a worker can register on the portal using his or her Aadhaar number and bank account details. Image Source
