The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) received 9,297 objections and suggestions in response to the notification issued to improve the property tax structure. On June 4, the GVMC issued the notification and gave the people 30 days to present their suggestions and objections.The new tax structure will be applicable from April 2021. GVMC proposed a property tax of 0.15% on market value of residential buildings, 0.3% on non-residential/commercial buildings, and 0.5% on the vacant lands. GVMC had announced that the public can drop objections and opinions in a written format on the revised tax regime at a special postal box at the GVMC main office or email at [email protected]. Residential welfare associations, opposition parties, and other organisations are objecting to the offered hike.
