Corrosion has emerged as one of the major problems faced by industries worldwide. The various products to fight corrosion are: Bitumin-based. Coal tar-based, Chemical-based, and STP's wonder formula ShaliUrethane.
Polyurethanes are used as a top coat. The usage of PU coatings is so versatile that it can be used on textiles, metals, silverwares, precious metals and even for paper protection. It provides a thin film, high gloss finish with exceptional weathering performance characteristics. This coating is used in virtually all industrial markets to provide a smooth durable finish that has superior resistance to corrosion, abrasion and chemical exposure. Polyurethanes are normally used to topcoat high build epoxy coatings and inorganic zinc coatings.
Concrete rebar corrosion: The main reason for the rebar corrosion is the salinity in the marine environment prevailing in coastal areas. The chloride in salts finds their way through the pores and s of the concrete down to the rebar. When the rebar corrodes, the resulting volume expansion induces stress that leads to ing, delaminating and spalling of the concrete and eventual loss of bonding between the rebar and the concrete.
Rebar coatings: Protective coating like epoxies, galvanised and some cementitious material containing corrosion inhibitors can be applied to the rebar to provide a barrier between the rebar and the corrosive environment. Coatings have naturally occurring defective spots produced during fabrication or they may be damaged during the transportation and are vulnerable for corrosion at times.

Polyurethanes, especially aliphatic polyurethanes are formulations which are capable of going through extreme vagaries of nature and the basic ingredients used in formulating them help the ultimate coating to withstand UV radiation and the degradation is absolutely minimised.
