Amazon India opens office space of 8.3 lakh sq ft in Chennai

Amazon India has opened an office space spread across 8.3 lakh sq ft in the World Trade Centre in the Perungudi area in Chennai.

The new office space, occupying 18 floors in the building, will help about 6,000 employees. It is Amazon's fourth office in Tamil Nadu and takes the total office area to more than 21 lakh sq ft. It presently has more than 14,000 employees primarily based in Chennai and Coimbatore.

The office space was launched by MK Stalin, chief minister of Tamil Nadu, in the presence of Mano Thangaraj, minister of Information Technology, and Neeraj Mittal, secretary, Department of IT, Government of Tamil Nadu.

The infrastructure developments in Tamil Nadu have been a result of their investment-friendly policies and commitment to generating new jobs for the talent pool in the state. They believe that the takeoff of Amazon鈥檚 new office in Chennai will have a multiplier effect on the state economy.

Vinod Mathews, director (Global Real Estate & Facilities) of the firm, told the media that they would continue to develop and invest in their employee base in the region to serve their customers and improve their experience. The new office will operate in full capacity as and when employees return to work, once the pandemic-induced remote working scenario stabilizes.
